About

According the NBC's official site, Jaime Sommers was born and raised in Van Horne, Iowa. She attended Van Horne's public school, Meskwaki High School, where she was a very active and popular student. Her many school activities included being forward on the school's field hockey team, writing/editing for the school literary magazine, debate squad and photography club. She also helped her family out financially by taking neighborhood jobs including babysitting, delivering newspapers, and hostessing/waitressing at family-style restaurant Jelly's Eatery.

A year before her high school graduation, her mother Madeline was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. Jaime blamed her mother's late diagnosis on her parents' frequent travels. Jaime quit most of her school activities to help care for her mother, and her grades also suffered slightly, but she managed to graduate in 2001 in the top 7% of her class. When her mom's condition worsened, Jaime put aside her college plans and continued to work close to home to remain a caretaker for her mom. She continued to do so until 2004, when her mother passed away from the breast cancer.

Right after the funeral, Jaime took off for the west coast, leaving her younger sister Becca and father Ethan behind. She used her savings to get a cramped apartment in a college town and to enroll in the college's psychology program. Jaime found herself a job at a local bar, and a few semesters into college she starting dating highly regarded professor, Dr. Will Anthros, whom she had met in a bioethics class she took as an elective.

In 2006, Jaime's sister showed up on her doorstep with a few belongings, asking to stay with her. Jaime agreed to let her stay, and again the need to provide her family forced her to put her education on hold.

Character History

Pilot

Jaime comes home from working as a bartender and tucks in her sleeping younger sister, Becca. In the morning, she wakes up to Becca's loud music and tells her to turn the volume down. Becca obeys and Jaime notices a phone line in Becca's room and reminds her that she isn't supposed to be anywhere near a computer. Becca denies having a computer in her room only to pull out a hidden laptop from outside her window when Jaime leaves the room. Jaime meets her boyfriend, Will Anthros at the school where he's teaching and he tells her that she was unexpected in his life. They set up dinner for 8:30 that night and kiss goodbye. Jaime has a few friends over to look after Becca while she is gone and she promises Becca that they'll go to a double-feature the next day. At the restaurant. Will invites Jaime to France with him but she refuses to go saying she has responsibilities and then she reveals that she is pregnant. Will asks her to marry him.

In the car, Will and Jaime discuss what to name the baby when suddenly, a semi-trailer cab crashes into the car and sends it spinning into a light pole. Will gets minor injuries while Jaime gets crushed in the accident. Jaime is taken by Will to the Wolf Creek Biotech Research Facility, where Will, the chief surgeon, operates on her to save her life. When she wakes up after the surgery, Jaime learns Will replaced her right arm, ear, eye and both legs with bionic implants. Jaime also learns that an eighth of her blood has been replaced with healing anthrocytes that are regrowing the skin on her new bionic legs. Jaime is overcome by shock, smashes Will into a glass wall, and has to be tranquilized in order to calm her down.

Will helps Jaime to recover and Jaime is interviewed by Ruth, and draws for her a picture of Sarah Corvus and learns that the Berkut Group has told Becca that she went skiing. Later, Will helps break Jaime out of the bionics facility so she can return to her normal life with her sister. On returning home, Jaime is unable to tell Becca the truth about where she went even though her sister tells her she knows she doesn't ski.

Jaime learns that her new bionic legs allow her to run super fast and jump super high. That night, Jaime is bartending when Sarah approaches her. Jaime experiences nausea and disorientation from her eye and ear implants activating, and Sarah recognizing the symtoms, tells her what to expect. Sarah also notes that a cut Jaime gave herself while bartending has healed quickly from the anthrocytes in her body, but then disappears. From a distance, Jaime hears Sarah say to "tell everyone Sarah Corvus says hello". Jaime goes outside the club to follow Sarah, but loses her to do a thief with a knife. Jaime easily takes him down, and just barely restrains herself from killing him.

Later, Jaime meets up with Will at his apartment. She learns that Will also put at least a couple microchips in her head, which are used for her brain to interact with her bionic parts. Will also tells Jaime that his father originally headed the program, and that it was funded by the military as a way of helping amputees from the Gulf. Will notes that his father immediately saw the military applications his technology enabled for warfare. After finishing their discussion and spending some time together, Will is shot by Sarah Corvus via sniper rifle, and Jaime identifies her using her bionic eye. Jaime decides to head after Sarah.

Jaime catches up to Sarah on the nearby building rooftop. Before fighting, Sarah reveals that she was the first bionic woman, and the bionics facility had replaced both her arms, eyes and legs, part of her chest, one of her ears, and also gave her the same healing anthrocytes. Sarah does well initially against Jaime, but Jaime eventually gets the upper hand. However, their fight is interrupted by a helicopter flying over and Sarah gets away. Afterwards, Jaime talks to Jonas and tells him she agrees to work with him, but that she wants to do things her way, before returning home.

Paradise Lost

Jaime and Becca attend a cemetery funeral ceremony for Will Anthros. Jonas Bledsoe is also there, and after the ceremony, tries to convince Jaime to come in, but she tells him she plans to go on as if nothing ever happened.

After dropping Becca off, Jaime goes alone to Will's apartment. While searching his place, she finds a loose floorboard and under it a dossier of Jaime made by the Berkut Group. The profile dates to two years prior to their first meeting and includes Jaime's SESI I.Q. test and photos of her marked as being from 2004.

Upset, Jaime goes to a small bar to sort through her feelings. She tells the bartender that she has decided everything is now about "Mr. Right Now". So she attempts to have sex with the next guy she meets in the bathroom, but gets rough and hurts his ribs. Jonas interrupts her rendevous in the bathroom, and tries to convince her to come work for him in between periods of Jaime throwing up in the sink. She asks Jonas about the dossier, but he explains it away telling her that they are "a private, clandestine group dedicated to keeping rogue organizations from ending civilization as we know it", and that they're saving the world. However, when Jonas asks if she's "in", Jaime still refuses to join up.

The next morning, Jaime gets a call from Becca's school. Jaime meets with Becca and her school's principal in the principal's office. Jaime learns Becca is accused of smoking pot on campus. Rather than expelling Becca, Mrs. Buesy considers excluding her from any school activities. However, Jaime convinces Mrs. Buesy to let Becca continue to participate in drama club including the talent show this coming Friday. She later tells Becca that smoking pot in the girl's locker room makes her a cliche. Becca tries to downplay it and threatens to move back with her father. Jaime agrees to let her do so if she wants to.

In Jonas's office, Jonas and Ruth watch security camera footage a contact got to Ruth of the decimated town of Paradise, Idaho. The footage documents at least 14 people dead, but she believes there is good evidence to think there are more. Jonas says the military hasn't said anything to him about it. Ruth replies that there is a media black-out of the event and it is a complete cover-up of what looks like a biological attack.

At a diner, Jaime meets with one of her friends. She says she is okay except for a ringing in her ear, and they try to comfort her for the loss of her fiancee and the way her sister is acting. However, when a second friend arrives, the two make Jaime feel uneasy talking about their successes.

Later, Jaime is at a bookstore reading through the book What Color is Your Parachute (2008) when she runs into Antonio Pope. Antonio introduces himself without mentioning his affiliation to the Berkut Group and offers Jaime some advice including to think about what she could offer the world. Jaime returns to the diner to continue reading the book and overhears a news report on television News Channel 8 that it is now day 2 of Crisis in Paradise. The news report says that the town's small population of 201 have been quarantined without explanation, and that the military has set up barricades not letting anyone in or out of the town.

Jaime leaves the diner and her bionic hearing identifies a lady on the ledge of an apartment building crying and considering to jump. After spotting the lady with her bionic vision, Jaime runs super-fast past a janitor and up the steps of the building. She grabs the lady with her bionic arm just as she begins to fall, and lifts her back onto the roof and collapses next to her. Jaime claims to the lady that she could do that because of her pilates.

Jaime goes and sees Jonas Bledsoe in his office, who is taking a call. Jonas asks her if his 16 year-old daughter is too young to be on the pill. Jaime says it's better to be safe than sorry if she's sexually active, but Jonas says she's too young. Jaime tells Jonas she's willing to give working for him a try with conditions: she has to be home by 7pm every night to have dinner with her sister, she doesn't work weekends, and he has to get her sister on their health plan. She also notes that this Friday night, she has to be at her sister's talent show to see her in a number from Annie Get Your Gun, and that she has a ringing in her bionic ear. Jonas replies they're working on it, then re-introduces Antonio Pope to Jaime as her supervisor.

Afterwards, Jaime meets with a bionics technician, Nathan, who tries to fix the ringing in Jaime's ear. After trying several technical solutions, he gets it working again by patting Jaime on the back of the head. Nathan then confirms to Antonio that she is ready to start training. Jaime and Antonio leave into the hallway and Antonio confirms that their first meeting was planned down to the Jack Russell Terrier, Scraps, which he borrowed from the pet store down the street because Jaime had one when she was little. Antonio says their long conversation was to confirm she wasn't compromised and that she wasn't with another agency.

Antonio then lets her begin her training with Jae Kim, who uses the same moves on Jaime as Sarah Corvus, giving Jaime flashbacks to their fight. Jae explains that her bionics have a muscle memory and that's why she is experiencing deja vu. He adds that Sarah was calibrating herself for a future fight, and that just because she has bionics doesn't mean she's invincible. Jaime continues her practice session doing one-armed pull-ups with her bionic arm and slalom-style running inside and out of the building posts. Jaime then fights some more with Jae and kicks a dent into one of the metal building supports.

After fighting, Jae details some of Jaime's abilities: she can run at least sixty mph, has enough power in her arm to shatter a brick and can bend steel with her grip. He continues that Jaime has 2000/20 vision and that her ear can isolate a conversation from 2 miles away as if it were in front of her. Jae adds that if she succeeds in her training she can become a formidable weapon but if she fails she will go insane. Jaime asks if that's what happened to Sarah Corvus, but Jae replies that he doesn't know. He tells her that no matter how he feels, she's the enemy cause she killed 14 of their agents and survived him shooting her in the head. When he asks Jaime how she wants to continue their training, Jaime asks to be set loose on "some real bad guys" but Jae says that would be Jonas's decision.

Ruth and Jonas are talking in Jonas in his office, and Ruth pleads to go to Idaho to investigate the deaths. Jonas refuses until Jaime, who is listening through a window outside his office, offers to accompany Ruth, and then he agrees saying a field test for Jaime might not be a bad idea. Leaving to take a phone call, he tells Ruth to report back to him and to have his office soundproofed.

Jaime and Ruth go to Paradise in Ruth's car. In discussing Jaime's feelings for Ruth, Ruth tells Jaime the first thing they teach you is "not to get too close to anyone in this game" and the second is that it is a game. Upon reaching the blockade quarantining the town, Ruth shows a badge and they are allowed to pass through. As agents from the Dept. of Agriculture, they enter a tent serving as a makeshift examining area, where Marty, a CDC doctor, shows them one of the victims and notes that there are no survivors. Afterwards, they exit the tent and Ruth takes a cellphone call from Jonas. Ruth reports that the whole town is dead due to an airborne synthetic—one they developed themselves called DMC-30. Ruth adds that they are safe now as the gas only has a 12 hour toxicity level and that she is going into town to take samples and find the distribution system. Jonas replies that he will put a team on standby just in case. When Ruth notes that the group doesn't have any men for a team, Jonas remarks that he will hire some—he'll call Halliburton.

Using her bionic hearing, Jaime senses that someone else is in town. So Jaime helps Ruth to locate that person—a young girl named Vivian, who appears to have been in town during the gasing, and is inside her home brushing her teeth when they find her. She asks them where her grandma is.

Jaime, Ruth and Vivian leave Vivian's grandparent's home as Ruth explains the situation. Vivian tells them that there was a weird gas truck driving circles around the town last night. Ruth goes to do more re-con and leaves Vivian with Jaime. Jaime hears some men appearing to be soldiers coming around a corner, but as they approach she overhears a communication that they are closing in on the girl now. There are at least six men in the battalion and they run from them into a surplus store. While hiding in the store, Jaime gets a call from her sister on her cell phone. Becca asks where her Denacious T t-shirt is and tells Jaime that their father gave her permission to move back in with him. Jaime tells Becca not to do anything till she gets back home and disconnects. One of the men that enters, and Jaime fights him and knocks him out with a paint can. Then, Ruth arrives through the back warning that others are on the way. Ruth grabs some military supplies from the store and booby traps a hand-grenade with a trip-wire as a surprise for those following them. As they leave the store through the front, four of the men enter through the back and the grenade goes off. Just then, Antonio, along with a bunch of other men that Jonas hired, arrive and shoot all but one man, whom they take prisoner.

Later, Antonio, Jaime, and Vivian are at the diner. Vivian thanks them for what they did for her, and leaves to meet with a female family member who is picking her up outside. Antonio notes that Vivian obviously has an immunity to the gas and the next step is to find out if there is more gas, where the rest of the gas is and who has it. Antonio says to leave that part to him. Back in the bionics facility, Antonio talks to the remaining fake battalion member and threatens to use a pair of grip pliers on him unless he tells him where he can find the rest of the DMC-30 gas. Later, Antonio calls Jonas and tells him that Ruth was right—that Paradise was only a test run and that they are running out 20 trucks full of the gas at midnight tonight. Jonas says he is on his way.

That night, the Berkut Group crew moves in before the gas trucks leave and capture the trucks and the other men. In the raided facility, Jaime spots a map marked with other cities planned for gasing including Springfield, Jackson, and Portland and notes that these guys were serious. After the raid, Jonas apologizes to Jaime for sending her into the field—that it was too early, but Jaime replies that it wasn't too early, and that she's "in".

Later, Jaime arrives at Becca's talent show and watches and photographs Becca singing with her partner. After the show, they step outside the Windmere High School auditorium and Jaime tells Becca she was the best. Jaime adds that Becca is going to live with her and that she's never going to live with their dad. Jaime notes that she doesn't want to lose anyone else. Then, Jaime and Becca walk away debating whether to go eat pizza.

Sisterhood

Jae and Jaime are training by sparring each other in the Berkut Group's bionics facility, but the training isn't going so great. Jaime complains she's not used to thinking of herself as artificially intelligent, but Jae explains that if she can hack into her own programming, and change her responses during a fight. Thus, she can go way beyond the design of her bionics and all it takes is practice.

Later, Jaime has lunch with Becca at an outdoor cafe. Jaime admits to Becca she is trying to buy back her love since she's been working so much. Becca wants $170 jeans, but Jaime resists saying that's too much, even if Jaime does have a new "consultant" job. When Jonas calls to put Jaime to work, Becca tells her to ask for a raise.

Jaime says she can't work, she's with Becca, but Jonas already replies that he already knew where she is from a GPS implanted in her head. Jonas asks Jaime to locate a "very bad man" on the street and keep him occupied for five minutes until a team arrives. Jonas continues that in the future, when he asks Jaime to do something, he wants her to do it without question. Jaime hands Becca her credit card and tells her to get the jeans as an early Christmas present, then runs after the guy. Jaime proceeds to the man's car and tries to delay him by asking for directions. But when he tries to punch her, Jaime knocks him out by slamming his head into the steering wheel using her bionic arm. Becca gets back from the store before Jaime returns, and Jaime finds out her sister has purchased a bunch of shirts along with the jeans. Jaime claims she was in the bathroom, and says for them to go catch the movie together as planned.

Later, Jaime storms into Jonas's office, where Jonas is sitting by himself at his desk. Jaime states she is upset that there is a GPS in her head, only to learn that it call also stream video. Jaime demands that her tracker be removed, and Jonas says he could comply, but since it is grafted under her cerebral cortex, she would be left unable to move her left side after its removal. Jaime replies that she thinks that he wants to keep a close eye on his $50 million investment and that it's perverted. Jonas claims that her safety is also part of it. He tells Jaime that he needs her to baby-sit Heaven Von Fleet, the daughter of a wealthy Canadian arms dealer. He continues that Heaven's father is selling arms to the Bosnians, which has been upsetting the Serbs. Thus, Heaven needs 24-hour protection when visiting the States.

Jaime meets with Heaven's father at his hotel suite. He tells Jaime to pick Heaven up tommorrow at 9 O'Clock and gives her directions and tells Jaime his daughter is "a little spirited". He continues that while under Jaime's watch Heaven is not to get a new tatoo, a new body piercing, consume any alcohol, or consume any drugs. When Jaime replies that she thought her job was just to keep her safe, he notes his large contributions in the terms of millions of dollars given to her employer. Heaven then wanders into the room talking on the phone and smoking. Mr. Von Fleet tells Heaven she shouldn't be smoking and Heaven responds by telling her dad she hates him for trying to control her and wants him to leave. When Jaime introduces herself, Heaven says she doesn't need to know her name.

Later, Jaime and Becca hang out and dance around their apartment. Jaime lets Becca take a sip of some wine, and she takes a little more than a sip. Meanwhile, Sarah bionic eye spots Jaime in her apartment, and jumps onto the balcony outside Jaime's second-story apartment. Sarah flashes back to hanging out with her own sister, arguing, drinking and driving fast. While distracted from trying to convince her sister not to drink the rest of a bottle of alcohol, a truck crashes into Sarah's car, in a near repeat of Jaime's accident, and Sarah's sister is killed instantly. Back at the present time, Becca, whom Jaime calls the Sommers family pack-rat, discusses photos she's kept of their family with Jaime using her laptop. They first talk about their dog, Kurt, who used to lick himself all day, then they move onto their relatives. Becca tells Jaime that their mom's grandmother had some type of rare genetic disorder and was meant to die at around the age Jaime is now, but lived until 1992.

Jaime dreams of Sarah, who tells her they are the only two humans with coupling devices in their optic nerves, that their brains filter out stuff they don't want them to see, and that Jaime should not let this happen so she can see everything. Sarah continues that they could know what each other is thinking, if they want. Then, Sarah says to wake up and Jaime opens her eyes and freaks out to find Sarah standing next to her bed. She tries to fight, but Sarah knows Jaime better than she knows herself. Sarah adds she can tell they have Jaime has been lojacked, and a Berkut team is on their way. Sarah says she needs more time to talk to Jaime than it will take for the Berkut team to arrive, but notes that she needs Jaime's help. Jaime responds that Sarah killed the only man she ever loved and also her unborn child. Sarah says it was never about Jaime and she doesn't want to hurt her or her sister. Sarah asks her to meet at a oceanside sulfur plant tommorrow at noon, and to come alone. Sarah adds that whether Jaime knows it or not, they need each other, and exits out the door to her balcony.

Later, in the Berkut Group conference room, Jonas holds a meeting with Ruth, Jaime and Jae. Jonas wants Jaime in lockdown, and orders Sarah be brought in dead or alive. Jaime refuses to hide, and tells Jonas what she's going to do. She'll find out what Sarah wants. She thinks Sarah's in pain, and wants Jonas to promise that he'll help her. Jonas claims to relent, and that the team will stay back until Jaime gives the signal. Jonas mentions Sarah's accident where she lost her sister, and that after it, she pretty much went "scorched earth."

While Jaime's watching Heaven at a clothing store, Jaime talks with Nathan on her cell, complaining about still having to be on babysitting detail and Heaven disappears. Jaime goes outside to look for her and gets a call from Jonas, asking why she isn't already on her way back. Jonas adds that it looks like she lost Heaven and Jaime restates that the video tracking is a total violation of her privacy. After disconnecting, Jaime tracks Heaven to a tattoo parlor and pulls her out just as she is about to get needled. Jaime leaves Heaven with Ruth in the bionics facility, and checks in with Antonio, asking what Sarah could want. Antonio says he believes Sarah is working with Anthony Anthros, and informs Jaime that he escaped from prison. When Jaime asks him what they could want, Antonio says that if he had to guess, he would have to say Jaime.

When they meet at the sulfur plant, Sarah tells Jaime that she is sick, and that she thinks Jaime is the only person who can help get her well. Sarah recalls the situation several years ago where she lost control, killing many and was shot by Jae. Sarah adds that Will Anthros raised her from the dead, but took away her emotions at the same time. Sarah continues that now she is losing control again and she believes whatever Will did to save her was temporary. Sarah continues that she needs Jaime's help to potentially save her life, that the anthrocytes programming in Jaime's body is more advanced, and if Anthony Anthros can isolate their differences, he might be able to save Sarah's life.

When Sarah asks Jaime how well she knew Will and how does Jaime knows he wasn't using her all along, Jaime says she is finished talking. Jaime says she doesn't need Sarah, but that Sarah needs her. When a team of soldiers runs towards them, Sarah feels betrayed, and Jaime tells her to run. Sarah dives into the ocean and escapes.

Jaime returns to Berkut's bionics facility, and meets with Jonas and Ruth. Jaime is irate that Jonas reneged on their deal, and didn't wait for Jaime's signal. Jaime wonders what it was that they were afraid Sarah would tell Jaime, and asks without answer whether she is a ticking time-bomb too. Jaime continues that she insists they help Sarah. Jaime restates that Sarah's killing 14 of the Berkut Group's men wasn't Sarah's fault since Sarah's identity was stolen. Jaime also demands that Jonas turn off her video tap.

Jaime returns to sparring with Jae in the Berkut Group's training room, and is finally able to take him down. Antonio comes out of the shadows and grabs a crowbar. Antonio attacks Jaime with it, stating that Sarah Corvus isn't going to fight Jaime while wearing gloves. He challenges Jaime to reach deep inside and fight him like an animal. Jaime fights so well that Jae has to pull her off Antonio, who is well pleased with Jaime's savagery.

After Antonio leaves the training room, Jaime talks with Jae about what happened at the sulfur plant. Jae confirms that Sarah will feel betrayed and she does hold grudges. Jae also notes that Jaime does have 24-hour surveillance, so she's not in it alone. Jaime leaves the training room to continue her assignment, and take Heaven for a pedicure. Ruth has been keeping Heaven busy answering questions in the interrogation room, and when Jaime returns Heaven immediately apologizes to Jaime for ditching her at the clothing store and asks to leave. Jaime thanks Ruth for help, and they leave to go to a nail salon. Sarah strolls into the shop, claiming Jaime needs her. Jaime's not so sure, but Sarah warns that there's four Serbian gangsters about to enter the salon. Jaime hides Heaven in the back room and fights the guys off as best she can, but finally begs Sarah to help. Sarah pulls a pistol off one of the Serbians and kills another. After defeating the gangsters together, Sarah tells Jaime she's sorry Jaime's unborn child is dead, that she didn't know Jaime was pregnant, but she's not sorry Will's dead. Sarah continues that she is dying and only Jaime's bionics can save her.

Jaime, Heaven and Sarah leave together from the salon and enter a parking garage. Sarah orders Heaven into the car, and when Jaime notes she's still being tracked, Sarah tells Jaime they need to stick together and form a union cause the Berkut Group isn't telling her everything. Jaime notes that she has a lot of reasons not to trust Sarah. In a show of faith, though, Sarah tells Jaime how to disable her video tap. Jaime succeeds in turning off the video tracker, but gets a nose bleed in the process. Jaime wants Sarah to come to Berkut, but Sarah points out that Anthony Anthros is the only surgeon capable of helping her, now that Will is dead. Sarah continues that she will die within a year if Jaime refuses to help her. Jaime refuses to let Anthony Anthros touch her, so Sarah leaves saying she is going to "go lie on the sidewalk to die".

Jaime returns Heaven to her father in their hotel suite. Heaven hugs her father and tells him she loves him. Heaven thanks Jaime and tells her she is so going to take up karate, and Jaime heads outside the suite. In the lobby, Jaime calls her sister and suggests for herself to bring home some Chinese food for dinner, and Becca agrees.

Jaime comes home with the food, shocked to find that Becca let Sarah in as Sarah claimed to be their new downstairs neighbor. While talking, Becca, having been drugged via her tea by Sarah, collapses. Sarah then grabs Becca and insists Jaime go with her to Dr. Anthros or she will snap Becca's neck. Jaime appeals to what's left of Sarah's humanity, and Sarah lays Becca down gently. Jaime's nose bleeds, and Sarah realizes Jaime's turned on her tracker to alert the Berkut Group. As Sarah leaves disappointed, Jaime says that if Sarah ever comes near Becca again, she will kill her. Sarah replies to Jaime that Berkut will destroy her, that Jaime was only Will's lab rat, and that their love meant nothing. Sarah says she wants Jaime to remember that the next time she feels like she's trusting someone. Jaime holds Becca and tells her that everything is going to be alright.

Face Off

Jaime runs fast down an alley and jumps over a tall metal-wire fence. However, she injures her right foot's innermost toe when she lands on a manhole cover. She opens the door to the a parked car and finds her sister about to makeout with a guy in the back seat. Jaime pulls her off of him, and asks her if this is what she calls studying at Rachel's house. Jaime continues that Becca is only 15 years old, and asks what she thinks she was doing? Becca says she was trying to live her life and that it is none of Jaime's business. Jaime replies that it is her business, and asks the guy if he knew Becca's age, and he claims Becca said she was 18. Jaime tells Becca they are going home.

Later at the Berkut Group's bionics facility, Nathan asks Jaime what she did to his toe. Jaime replies that it is her toe, and what happened to the self-healing anthrocytes. Nathan notes that Jaime's bionics are still prototypes and not everything is going to work always as it is supposed to. When he keeps staring at her toe, Jaime asks if Nathan has a foot fetish, but he responds that he is a boob man. Jaime admits she injured herself while surveilling her sister after realizing she lied to her face, and Nathan says that's what teenagers do. Nathan shocks Jaime's toe with electricity in order to get it working again. He claimed Jaime shouldn't feel any pain, but she did. Jaime realizes it's really the lieing that bothers her. Jaime says she really doesn't care that much what Becca does, she just doesn't want her to lie to her cause then she can't help her. When Jaime asks Nathan to keep her injury between them, he says "sure thing".

Jaime goes to see Jonas, and he tells her she owes him $27,269.31 for the new toe. Jonas continues that her bionics were not developed to spy on her delinquent sister, and then Jonas walks in and asks how is her toe. Jonas plays a video tape of American CIA analyst, Dr. Mark Stevens, who was taken in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay by an organization calling itself the Sons of the Red Sand. Jonas explains that Mark has some sensitive information and that the organization will behead him in 48 hours unless the CIA admits he is theirs, which they won't. He continues that since Paraguay never passed any anti-terrorism laws, the US military can't go in to get him, so it is up to Antonio and Jaime to rescue him. Jonas says that Becca will be watched 24/7 by their surveillance team, but it is up to Jaime to come up with a story as to why she is going away.

The next morning, Jaime tries fruitlessly to make breakfast for Becca. When the eggs she is cooking catch fire, Jaime grabs the hot frying pan with her hand and drops it into the sink to extinguish the flames. The anthrocytes heal Jaime's burnt hand. Becca wakes up and enters the kitchen, surprised that Jaime tried to make breakfast. Becca apologizes for lieing to Jaime, saying the guy was a creep anyway. Becca then teases Jaime that usually those internet room chatroom guys turn out to be pretty cool. Jaime then tells Becca that Carly invited her up to Napa to celebrate her getting into law school.

Jaime then talks to Antonio at the bionics facility. Antonio explains that they will land on an airstrip, and that he has an asset, a local cop there, who will help them find Dr. Stevens when they arrive. Antonio adds that they are not flying in a little Gulfstream. Jaime says she is okay with that, then asks if he has any anti-anxiety meds. Before Antonio can answer, Sarah is wheeled by on a stretcher by three Berkut agents. Sarah, strapped down such that she can't move, asks Jaime how Becca is. Antonio tells Jaime they have to get going, and that Jonas will take care of Sarah.

On board the Berkut Group's Gulfstream, Antonio and Jaime are flying to Paraguay. Jaime gets jumpy when there is some turbulance, and tells Antonio she is scared of flying, that she couldn't find any drugs, and that she thought getting wasted before a mission was a bad idea. Antonio says for them to talk about something else, and Jaime mentions she is upset about having to lie to Becca. Antonio tells Jaime she isn't lieing, just protecting her. He notes that trust and full disclosure is not the same thing, and that Jaime can trust Antonio even though he has not told her everything—that all that Jaime needs to know is that they are a team and he has her back. When there is some more turbulance, Jaime holding Antonio's hand for comfort, squeezes it a little too tight.

Jaime and Antonio meet their asset, a local police officer, in a parking lot. Jaime and Antonio are inside a rental car, and the officer tells them through the window where he suspects they can find Dr. Stevens, and notes that all of the perimeter and doors are alarmed except for the ventilation system, but that is blocked by an exhaust fan that will take your head off before you can get in. The officer adds that he thinks it's suicide to go in there, that he will deny knowing them if they are caught, and that his police will not help them.

At the terrorist's facility, Jaime uses her bionic arm first to peel back a metal-wire fence, and then her bionic eye to stop and bend one of the large exhaust fan's blades so they can get inside. Once inside, Antonio purposely sets off one of the many laser beam alarms and kneels down, putting his hands behind his head. He suggests Jaime follows his lead or she'll be shot. At least seven kidnappers respond to the alarm and storm in and take Jaime and Antonio to their leader. When they arrive, their leader takes them to meet Dr. Stevens and threatens to harm them unless he begins cooperating and decoding the flash drive. Antonio tells Jaime now would be a good time to start fighting and she and Antonio are able to kill or knock out the men in the room.

Antonio instructs Jaime to tie up the remaining guard who isn't dead and take him back to the fan room. Jaime responds by asking when Antonio and Dr. Stevens are going to do. Antonio says that Dr. Stevens has to stay here, that he deciphered the flash drive and must be killed. Dr. Stevens tells Jaime that the flash drive contained everything there is to know about bionics, including about Jaime. Antonio says the drive was given to him to decipher, not to read, and that they would have saved him if he hadn't read it. He continues that Dr. Stevens must die since he would be able to give up the information if caught. Jaime responds by shoving Antonio into the wall and instructing Mark to run to the fan room, that she would meet him there. Antonio says that if Dr. Stevens talks, Jaime would be in the cross hairs and wouldn't last a month. Jaime replies then she won't, and takes off for the fan room. On the way there, more of the terrorist group arrives and begins shooting at Jaime. She makes it to the fan room, but one of the kidnappers shoots her in her right shoulder. Jaime escapes with Mark through the exhaust fan, and restarts it so the kidnappers can't follow.

Jaime and Dr. Stevens break into a store called Bodega Muchas Cosas in order to hide. Jaime uses her bionic arm to remove the lock and her eye in infared mode to see the numbers pressed on the alarm keypad. Jaime tells Mark the numbers 2569 and he enters them highest to lowest saying that is the most probable code. The code works and the alarm is disarmed. Mark answers Jaime's questions and explains that he doesn't know his contact, just a voice on the phone, and that when he needs help he tells him where to pick things up. Marks also notes that he thought it was just them, and someone tipped them off to what he was doing. He notes that Jaime is in shock, and tells Jaime that he went to medical school and spent two years at Walter Reed. As for the decoding, Mark claims he was always a kind of savant at word games and puzzles. Mark continues that he was showing off one day at Walter Reed and the CIA recruited him. Mark examines Jaime's gunshot wound and tells her he has to take it out now, that her anthrocytes work to incorporate foreign material into her body instead of expelling it. He notes that if it doesn't come out, the anthrocytes, which are moving the bullet, could damage other organs.

Mark works on getting the bullet out of Jaime's shoulder. When Jaime asks how he lives with the lieing, he says you don't. Mark recounts the events of three years ago, when a lie he deciphered led to a bombing raid in Iraq. Mark continues that 87 civilians were killed and another 113 were injured, so he came to Triple Border to atone, doctoring people who have nothing. He adds that the CIA still calls on him from time to time, but he only deciphers information now that he can live with. Mark says he couldn't give them the information to save himself, as he knew that was too dangerous. Mark finished removing the bullet and Jaime's bionic arm has a tremor. Mark explains that the tremor is a side effect of her bionic interface failing and being reset. When Jaime says it keeps happening, Mark continues that it is inherent in the system, that the anthrocytes become fatigued over time until bionic systems cease to function within a projected five years. Mark clarifies that means Jaime is going to die.

When morning arrives, Jaime hears someone coming and ushers Mark into a storage area in the back of the store. She gives him the flash drive, tells him to wait there, and pulls down the vertically-closing wooden door. Antonio enters the bodega and asks Jaime where Dr. Stevens is, but Jaime will not say. Antonio tries to convince Jaime that Dr. Stevens is collateral damage, since killing him saves her, but she is not convinced and tells Antonio he is going to have to go through her in order to get him. Jaime fights with Antonio and sends him flying across the room with a powerful kick. Jaime then tests with two fingers on her bionic hand to see if Antonio is dead or just unconscious. She runs back and opens the door to where she left Mark, but he isn't there.

Jaime sits alone quietly in Jonas's office until he arrives. Jaime asks Jonas if he didn't think she had a right to know that she only had five years to live. Jonas claims that five years is a lifetime in technology, and that he was just trying to protect her. Jaime is still upset demanding that he will not lie to her, that it is just disgusting. Jaime expresses concern for her sister, and Jonas says they will find a way to fix this, that he will fix this.

Becca washes dishes as Jaime arrives home to their apartment. Jaime tries to claim everything went okay with Carly, but Becca tells Jaime she knows she is lieing cause Carly returned a pair of Jaime's shoes while Jaime was away. Becca asks Jaime to explain where she went, but Jaime says that she can't and that Becca just has to trust her. Jaime tells Becca that she loves her the most, a saying that their mom used to always say. Becca tells Jaime that trust is a two-way street, but Jaime can only tell her that it is her new job and that it's complicated. Becca says that she needs to know that Jaime is never going to leave her, and Jaime confirms that for her.

Enhancements

Jaime's body has several enhanced parts. Her right arm is enhanced and comes with a certain extent of super strength with it. Both her legs are bionic granting her enhanced speed and the ability to jump great lengths. Her right eye was replaced and has the ability to sense heat and also see very far up close. Her right ear grants her super hearing and she can block out other voices to listen to certain ones. She also has the ability to heal rapidly through microscopic machines called anthrocytes that replace one-eighth of her blood, and a couple chips in her brain that allow it to communicate with its bionic parts.

Notes

  • Her name is pronounced 'J-me' even though it is spelled "Jaime".

Trivia

  • In The Six Million Dollar Man television series (1974-1978), her character's name was spelled "Jamie" and in the first series The Bionic Woman (1976-1978), her name was originally supposed to be spelled the same way. However, it was changed to "Jaime" after the lead actress, Lindsay Wagner, mis-spelled it during a special effects sequence involving a fake tree and the studio decided it was not worth it to reshoot the scene.
