How are the characters categorised into main, supporting, etc. Grafix 09:47, 1 October 2007 (EDT)

  • It's a good question. Main characters are often easy, they're often credited by the show itself as the main cast and usually come first in the credits. Splitting the rest into supporting and recurring is tricky and may be somewhat arbitrary. Personally I'd like to see Supporting and Recurring merged into one. Minor characters are probably just ones that appeared on one or two episodes and that's it; usually not integral to the story. (Admin 10:55, 1 October 2007 (EDT))
    • It is a good question, and the answer should probably go into the help somewhere. This is how they are divided at Heroes Wiki and I chose to keep a similar layout:

Main characters are the central and featured portion of the main cast. They have storylines based around them.

Supporting characters are part of the main cast. They appear in almost every episode, but do not have a lead role. Will and Sarah are the only supporting characters right now.

Recurring characters are for guest roles that repeat for more than one episode.

Minor characters are for single-episode guest roles.

For me, there's a big difference between supporting and recurring. For instance, Becca's friends may appear in more than one episode, but they are not part of the main cast, thus they are recurring characters. Will is part of the main cast, but the main storyline doesn't revolve around him, so he gets considered a supporting character. The best reason for having a supporting character category is that is how the awards shows credit actors (ie. lead role, supporting role, recurring role, guest role). That said, Admin gets the final call. Should we delete the supporting portal?—Bigfoot Lover (talk) 14:27, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
      • I don't get the final call, the community does. :) I'd be interested in any other opinions anyone else has on it. (Admin 16:00, 1 October 2007 (EDT))
