Template talk:Locationmap

From BionicWiki

Is there an image you would like me to use to make this template, or should I just find something generic? Also, there are some red links already listed on this page—are those the only ones you want me to add? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:36, 6 October 2007 (EDT)

  • Do you want a map of the world or just a map of America? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:55, 6 October 2007 (EDT)
    • I think a map of the world is needed. Forget about the current redlinks on the page, check out Portal:Locations for a better idea. So far, events in the first two episodes have been localized in the United States but that won't last long. An upcoming episode features scenes in Paraguay. Also, Bionic 360's character bios told us main character Jae Kim is from Korea, where his parents were both killed, and he travelled a bit going to school; Sarah Corvus was with a security firm that sent her to Iraq; and Jonas Bledsoe was in the military in both Lebanon and Okinawa.
As for a map style, Image:Gas terrorists' map.jpg is the first and only map presented in the story thus far, so it'd be good to use something like that (red outlines on a greyish-silver background). It reminds me of the giant floor maps of Where in the World of Carmen Sandiego?. However, if you're not into re-drawing the globe, that's okay too (porting the Heroes map is probably not a bad idea).—Bigfoot Lover (talk) 01:33, 7 October 2007 (EDT)
      • The Heroes map has all those pesky strings and sticky notes—it works for Heroes Wiki, but I don't think it would look right here. I'll see if I can find something similar to the map from Paradise Lost. Also, I think I'll follow the style of the Heroes Wiki map where only states and countries are named. That way, if there are four cities in Japan named, you won't have to try to squeeze four arrows in there, but rather one arrow to Japan. It means redirects and disambig pages, but that's probably a good idea anyway. (Incidentally, if there's only one city in a country, I'll redirect the country name to that city; if there is more than one country, a disambig should be created.) To begin, I'll use the 11 countries and states named on Portal:World Locations (Washington state is named twice). If there are others I'm missing, just let me know. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:46, 7 October 2007 (EDT)

Background color

The other option is to put a white background on the text of each link. It make the link pop out a bit more, but it covers up parts of the map. Personally, I think the links pop out enough without the background colors (they're the only color on the map), but I'm game for whatever you want to do. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:00, 7 October 2007 (EDT)

  • Actually, it doesn't cover up too much of the map. I'm going to make the change now. I'm changing the map above so it shows what the map looks like without the background. Slight changes, but the devil's in the details. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:03, 7 October 2007 (EDT)
    • It looks much better with the white background. Nice addition!—Bigfoot Lover (talk) 15:02, 7 October 2007 (EDT)
